Problem: This project was a design and build solution to provide a temporary hoist system to transfer refuse bins from the airport’s terminal level to the service level during major building works. It was a time-critical project as the works could not start until the hoist system was up and running.
Solution: Our brief was to design a portable hoist system that would fit into an existing service space minimising the need for structural changes.
The entire system was pre-fabricated and shipped to Christchurch so it could be installed quickly in a modulated form – a real challenge since it had to fit around existing ductwork and services.
A PLC control system made on-site set-up easy and also meant that they customer could relocate and set up the system at a different location in the future.
To minimise disruption to the running of the airport, the installation was completed during the night.
